Beijing Siheyuan

The traditional craftsmanship of Beijing Siheyuan is a traditional skill, declared by the China Academy of Art. Siheyuan, also known as Sihefang, is a very common traditional residence in old Beijing, and it is also a unique scene in the ancient capital. It is not only a form of brick and clay roof tile construction, but a concentrated expression of Chinese traditional culture. The pattern is that a courtyard has houses on all sides, usually consisting of a main house, an east room, an west room and an inverted room. The courtyard is surrounded by four sides.

Siheyuan, also known as Sihefang. The so-called four-in-one, "four" refers to the east, west, south, and north sides, "combined", that is, four-sided houses are enclosed together to form a "mouth" shape. Beijing regular courtyard houses generally rely on east-west hutongs to sit north facing south, and the gates are located in the southeast corner of the house. In the middle of the courtyard is the courtyard, the courtyard is spacious, the trees are planted in the courtyard, and the goldfish is kept in the tank. It is the center of the layout of the courtyard, and it is also the place where people walk through, collect light, ventilate, cool, rest, and do housework.

Although the courtyard is a residential building, it contains profound cultural connotations and is the carrier of Chinese traditional culture. The construction of the courtyard is very particular about Feng Shui. It is actually an ancient Chinese architectural environment science. It is an important part of Chinese traditional architectural theory. The decoration, carving and painting of the courtyard also reflect folk customs and traditional culture, showing people's happiness. The pursuit of beauty, affluence and auspiciousness, such as the pattern composed of bats and longevity words, means “Fushou Shuangquan”; the pattern of rose flowers in the vase symbolizes “four seasons of peace”; and the lucky words which embedded in the threshold and the door. The couplets attached to the pillars, and the paintings hanging in the room, is an ancient teaching of the sage, the famous sentence of the ancient and modern, or praise the beauty of the mountains and rivers, or inscribed the school of the world, or sing the ambition of the sage, It is elegant and full of rich cultural atmosphere and is like a palace of Chinese traditional culture.
