Lushan Historic Buildings: Shaolin Temple Complex

Shaolin Temple, located 13 kilometers northwest of Dengfeng City, south of Taichung Mountain. In the face of the Shaoshi Mountain, the back is covered by five milky peaks. The temple is named after the mountain. Qingjing Rizhao said, “Shanxi”: “The Shaolin people and the forests of the lesser chambers.” The Shaolin Temple is the birthplace of the Zen Buddhism and the Shaolin boxing. The Shaolin Temple, also known as the Temple of the Deaf, has the reputation of “Zun Zong Ting, the best in the world” and is the ancestral home of the Zen Buddhism of Chinese Han Buddhism.

Along with the White Horse Temple, Xiangguo Temple, and Fengxue Temple, it is known as the four famous temples in the Central Plains. ". Founded in 495 (Nineteenth year of Taihe in the Northern Wei Dynasty), Emperor Xiaowen built the Shaolin Temple in the north of Shaoshan Mountain in order to accommodate the sacred mantra that he admired. During the first five years (AD 508) of the Northern Wei Dynasty, the Indian high priests Lenamiti, Bodhidharma, and Bodhidharma came to the Shaolin Temple to open up the translation field, which effectively promoted the development of Northern Zen studies. The Shaolin Temple became a Buddhist school at that time. In 527 AD, the Indian name Bodhidharma taught the Zen religion to the Shaolin Temple. Since then, the monastery has gradually expanded and the number of gangsters has increased. Shaolin Temple has become famous. Dharma is known as the ancestor of the Chinese Buddhist Zen, and the Shaolin Temple is known as the ancestral home of Zen Buddhism.

The Shaolin Temple complex consists of three parts: regular hospitalization (namely known as the Shaolin Temple), Tallinn, and ancestral ancestors. The main body of the Shaolin Temple is often hospitalized. There are 7 central axis buildings in total. From south to north, there are Shanmen, Tianwang Hall, Daxiongbao Temple, Fatang, Abbotscourt, Lixue Pavilion and Qianfodian Temple. The Shaolin Temple building materials mainly consist of Chinese clay roof tiles,Chinese glazed roof tiles and so on.

The emperors of the Qing Dynasty were also concerned about the Shaolin Temple, or wrote books or patrolled the temples. In the fifteenth year of Qianlong (1750), Emperor Qianlong visited the Shaolin Temple and stayed in the abbot's room overnight, and personally wrote an inscription on the poem. The Shaolin monks performed meditation as usual in the daytime and adhered to the Qianfo Temple, the most hidden apse of the Shaolin Temple at night. They did not practice martial arts, and even the ground of the hall formed a pit due to long-term practice and power. The remains remain. From the mural paintings and literature of the White House in the Qing Dynasty, Shaolin Kungfu has maintained a high level since the Qing Dynasty.

In 1928, warlords fought against each other, and Shi Yousan, a warlord, burned Shaolin Temple and destroyed buildings such as Tianwang Hall, Daxiong Hall, and the Dharma Hall and Bell Tower. Many precious Tibetan Scriptures, temple records, boxing figures, etc. were burned into ashes.
After 1982, the State conducted a large-scale restoration of the Shaolin Temple to facilitate the cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. Now it has formed Shaoshan Shaolin with the themes of Shanmen, Tianwang Hall, Daxiongdian, the Tripitaka, Abbotshoe Room, Lixue Pavilion, and the Western Hall of St. The group of buildings will make the ancient temples of the millennia shine new brilliance.
