CHINESE GARDEN IN MONTREAL

The Montreal Botanical Garden is a large botanical garden in Montreal.

 It is considered to be one of the most important botanical gardens in the world

The Chinese Garden is constructed along the traditional lines for a Ming Dynasty Chinese garden.

Montreal Botanical Garden’s Chinese Garden is part of the botanical garden was created through

a collaboration with the Parks Department of Montreal’s sister city, Shanghai.

A prominent Shanghai landscape architect produced the design, 50 Chinese craftsmen worked on

its creation, and tons of materials were brought over from China in order to produce something genuinely

expressive of the Chinese garden tradition. 500 tons of stone from Lake Tai in Jiangsu Province was imported.

 

This tower is modeled after a Chinese pagoda.

There is also a 30′ tall artificial mountain, complete with waterfall. This is another garden tradition, a very

old one that goes back to the first Chinese imperial dynasty. It was originally based on the belief that immorta

l spirits, who had the power to grant wishes, lived on mountains.

For the past three years, the Chinese Gardens at the Botanical Garden have been getting a big face-lift.

The largest Chinese gardens outside of Asia were ready to show off their new shine for their official opening.
