Many many things in South and North China have big differences, like life style, dietary habit, living habits, etc. What’s more, in the ancient, the installation ways of the traditional roof tiles also have some differences.
As for the eaves, the installation in North China is drip tiles with eaves tiles; while in South China, people use drip tiles with edge tiles. Eaves tiles and edge tiles have the differences on shapes, but one end of them is closed with a decorative Chinese symbol, such as dragon, flower and Chinese words.
Meanwhile, the installation on eaves in South China has one more complicated way, that is being finished with drip tiles, edge tiles and hook tiles. This way is more classical and solemn.
Regarding the roof, the installation in North China is flat tiles with pan tiles; while in South China, people only use flat tiles. In fact, southern people use the flat tiles instead of pan tiles. In north and south China, people install the flat tiles on the roof by lines firstly, then northern people use the pan tiles to cover the space between two lines of flat tiles; while southern people use flat tiles to cover the space.
