The edge of the tiling – Drip tile

Drip tile is a type of Chinese style roof tiles ,which can protect the wall clean. Rectangular shaped,

they are installed on the front end of the roof and allows to protect the wood structure from the water

dripping. The end face of the tiles is closed with a decorative design.

Han dynasty the popular design is carving dragon, tiger, Linnet, tortoise which stand for East ,

South ,West and North.

Tang dynasty drip tiles were popular used in roofing. In the early the included angle

of drip tile is right angle. In the late of Tang the angle got bigger so that the rain water

flow out ,which were more science.

Now the architectures are not wood structure and clay wall, but the brick wall and concrete.

They are not afraid of the rain and wind. The drip tile lost its function. But its artistic value still

deserves our study and reference.
