The History Of Shaolin Temple

Shaolin Temple has a very long and rich history. It was built in Bei Wei Dynasty(about AD 495). In that time, some Indian monks came to China to spread their Buddhism. In order to arrange them, the emperor built Shaolin Temple.

 

In AD 527, Buddha Shakyamuni twenty-eighth apprentice Bodhidharma came to Shaolin Temple. He called the Buddhist together, taught them Zen Buddhism, then he disseminated the Dharma to Huike. Zen Idea started to root in Shaolin Temple.

In AD 574, the emperor gave orders to forbid spreading Buddhism. Shaolin Temple was destroyed badly.

 

In AD 580, Shaolin temple was renovated. In Sui Dynasty, the emperor worshiped Buddhism. He awarded Shaolin Temple about 3333300 square meter land. Shaolin Temple became the biggest Buddhism Temple.

 

In the beginning of Tang Dynasty, 13 Shaolin Monks helped the emperor to wrest political power. The emperor called Shaolin Monks to Monk Soldiers. Hence, Shaolin Temple is famous all over China.

In Ming Dynasty, Japanese attacked the Chinese coasts. Shaolin Monks made the big contribution of fighting against the Japanese. The Royal court helped Shaolin Temple to renovate the palaces many time. Then Shaolin Kung Fu was confirmed its status in Chinese Kung Fu history.
