Private Chinese Gardens

Imitation of Natural Mountains and Waters

During earlier periods the ancient Chinese gardens and parks

were enclosure gardens formed with real mountains and waters.

Later the practice of simulating natural mountains and waters came into being.

In the Song Dynasty, an imperial garden was built in the eastern capital of Bianliang and the

Emperor demanded that the magnificence of the Five Mounts in China be represented, leading

the craft of creating artificial mountains and waters to its peak. By the Ming and Qing Dynasties,

imitating nature had already become an important craft in garden construction among private gardens.

Private gardens are often built within the city, and for this reason even in the south where

water abounds, most garden ponds are dug by men.  Water plants should be planted to

create a sense of liveliness to the water but not to fill up the entire water space, because

they should not block the shadow of buildings in the water.

The garden pavilion and pagoda are indispensable. They often built near water and

for people to relax or play or enjoy the scenery. The building style is also in different design.

Simple square pavilion with four pillars, the roof is covered with Chinese clay roof tiles .If you like,

you also can use the traditional glazed tiles in green color. From far away, the green roof is in

harmony with the plants around. Everything is in peace.
