How Chinese glazed tiles are fired into various colors?

Chinese glazed tile is an ancient and simple building material with diverse colors and beautiful appearance, which can meet the different needs of many customers. Therefore, many people are also curious about how glazed tiles are fired into various colors?

The different colors of Chinese glazed tiles are temperature dependent during the firing process. The main emission pigment of glazed tiles comes from clay. Make it into a certain shape and then dry it in the kiln. Clay is rich in divalent iron and is essentially stable, but it is easily oxidized into trivalent iron compounds. At low temperatures, divalent iron is oxidized by iron oxides and its color is white, so green tiles are white when fired in a kiln at low temperatures.

The color of glazed tiles is composed of a mixture of pigments and the color of the underlying glass. Pigment is a powder composed of oxidized metal particles and a glass matrix, and its color is determined by the oxidation state of metal ions and their particle size.

The history of large-scale firing and use of Chinese glazed tiles can be traced back to the Qin and Han dynasties. The early blue glazed tiles were discovered during the Shang and Zhou dynasties. Modern industry is showing a rapid development trend, with unprecedented improvement in firing level and a significant increase in production. It has been passed down as an ancient building material and is the carrier of China's architectural culture. Now, it has been widely used in commercial, civil, and scenic buildings. The different colors of glazed tiles are not only related to the temperature during the firing process, but also to the mixing of raw materials.

Therefore, overall, there are many factors that can affect and determine the color of glazed tiles, but they mainly exist in two aspects: temperature and raw material mixing. Therefore, in order to control the color of ceramic tiles, these two aspects must not be careless.
