One of Chinese Traditional Roofs--Helmet Style Roof

The helmet roof is one of the important roof forms of ancient Chinese architecture. The so-called "helmet roof", as the name suggests, refers to the unique and chic roof shape that resembles the helmet of an ancient warrior. It can be seen that its name is vivid and elegant.

Most of the top and ridge of the helmeted roof are convex arcs, and a small part of the lower part is reversed outwards, just like the lower edge of a helmet. This type of roof has no main ridge, and each ridge meets in the middle of the roof, that is, 宝顶(Baoding).

The upper part of the slope and ridge of the helmet roof is convex outward, and the lower part is concave inward. The section is like a bow and is helmet-shaped. From a distance, the decoration in the center of the helmet looks like tassels or feathers on the helmet.

The helmet roof form is mostly used in ceremonial buildings such as monuments and pavilions. There are not many buildings in the form of helmet roofs in the existing ancient buildings. The largest surviving and most well-known building in the form of a helmet roof is Yueyang Tower, which ranks first among the "Three Famous Buildings in the South of the Yangtze River".

The helmet-shaped roof of Yueyang Tower has smooth curves, steep and curved, full of charm, which brings the curvilinear beauty of ancient Chinese architecture to the extreme, and embodies the wisdom and superb architectural skills of the ancient Chinese working people.
