Kyushu Pond--Royal Garden

Kyushu pond is an important royal pool garden in Luoyang during the Sui and Tang Dynasties, which gathers the essence of garden architecture in the Tang and Song Dynasties, and is an outstanding example of ancient Chinese royal gardens.

Kyushu pond was first built in the Sui Dynasty and continued to be used in the Tang and Song dynasties. It is named after the Jiuzhou resembling the East China Sea. According to historical records, it covers an area of 520000 square meters and has been discovered to be 139250 square meters deep. The embankment is bent, and there are several islands in the pond. Birds fly in the sky, fish swim in the water, and flowers are planted.

In the entire Kyushu Pond Site Protection and Exhibition Project, the Yaoguang Hall is the central building, consisting of three palace buildings. According to historical records, the Yao Guang Hall is a 28 meter high building located among the three islands of Kyushu pond, with a 7 meter bay and a depth of over 20 meters. It is an important building in the Royal Garden of Kyushu pond. The Yaoguang Hall has three floors, with the first floor being the site protection area and the second and third floors being the leisure area.

The floor tiles used for the first floor of the Yaoguang Hall are the same as those laid in the palace inside the Forbidden City. The second and third floors adopt the traditional Chinese tenon and mortise structure, which means that all connections between wood and wood do not use metal nails, but are connected through splicing and inserting, forming in one go. In order to ensure the engineering effect, all the required wood is Douglas fir imported from Canada, with high strength, high density, and no problem with load-bearing. At the same time, it has undergone fire prevention and anti-corrosion treatment.
