Milestones in the Restoration of Ancient Chinese Buildings

From the Northern Wei Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Datong, Shanxi Province, has formed a Datong architecture with regional characteristics based on the architectural characteristics of different dynasties. If we look at ground buildings in Shanxi, then Shanxi's buildings look at Datong. The ancient buildings on the ground in Datong are all treasure grade. For those who like Chinese history or ancient buildings, Datong is a good place that cannot be missed.

The Prince Dai Residence in Datong City was first built in 1392 and completed in 1396. It is a large imperial residence built with reference to the Imperial Palace of Nanjing. The foreground is a rectangular city with a length of 700 meters from the north to the south and a width of 260 meters from the east to the west. Around it, there are several meters high walls as a wind shield. The Prince Dai Residence building is divided into two parts: the Outer Court and the Inner Court.

Prince Dai Residence has witnessed the ups and downs of the Ming Dynasty, with around 11 Prince Dai people handling government affairs and living here. In 1644, Zhu Zhuan of the last generation Prince Dai died, while the palace was destroyed by fire, leaving only the Nine Dragon Wall.

In March 2011, as a key project for the revitalization of a famous cultural city, the restoration and reconstruction of Prince Dai Residence in Datong City was launched. According to incomplete statistics, the Prince Dai Residence in Datong is one of the largest and most complete wooden structure ancient buildings reconstructed in New China. It covers an area of nearly 2 square kilometers, has more than 20 palaces of various sizes, and a total of over 800 houses. It is known as the Potala Palace in Shanxi.

The architecture, tone, and pattern of Prince Dai Residence are indeed very similar to the palaces of the Ming and Qing dynasties, with a royal ritual and aesthetic sense! We all know that orthodox Chinese architecture is characterized by gray bricks and white tiles, and colorful buildings are a new Chinese architectural style formed by combining Chinese architecture with the architecture of various ethnic minorities.
