Altar of The God of Agriculture

China is a large agricultural country. Farming has always been a top priority since ancient times. Farming culture has a long history. After the beginning of the spring, ancient emperors will hold ceremonies for sacrificing to the ancestors of farmers and using farmland in a fixed place, with a set of very complex process rituals, which reached its peak in the Qing Dynasty. In Beijing, the Altar of the god of agriculture, which has a history of nearly 600 years, is the place where the feudal rulers of the Ming and Qing dynasties offered sacrifices to the ancestors and many gods related to agriculture.

The Altar of the god of agriculture plane is in the shape of a circle in the north and a circle in the south, with a total area of 8.6 million square meters. It is originally surrounded by two altar walls, the inner and outer, and the outer altar wall is 4378 meters long. The inner altar wall is divided into inner and outer altars. The outer altar is the wide forest and open space between the inner and outer altar walls in the west and north. Most of the main buildings for sacrificing to the god of the first farmer and performing the farming ceremony were built in the inner altar. Altar of the god of agriculture is the ancient sacrificial farm with the highest level of sacrifice, the largest scale and the most complete preservation in China.

The Beijing Museum of Ancient Architecture, located in Beijing's altar of the god of architecture, is a thematic museum with the main content of collecting, preserving, researching and displaying the history of ancient Chinese architecture, ancient architectural culture and ancient architectural technology. It was officially opened to the public in September 1991. With its unique style and long history, ancient Chinese architecture has become a glorious chapter in the development of world architecture.

The Beijing altar of the god of agriculture is an important relic of the imperial altar and temple architecture in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Its single building and plane pattern basically retain the style and characteristics of the Ming and Qing dynasties, and is an outstanding example of the Ming and Qing official sacrificial architecture. Altar of the god of agriculture's flexible architectural structure, plane layout for functions, and unique architectural color paintings and glazed decorations reflect the ingenuity of designers and craftsmen at that time, and show the highest level and technology of architectural design and construction in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
