The Beauty of Ancient Chinese Architecture

The beauty of ancient architecture lies in the fact that it carries the cultural characteristics of different historical periods, the stories spread between tiles and walls from ancient times, and the history and culture of China for thousands of years. The ancient architecture has witnessed the cultural heritage of China for thousands of years. Every brick, tile and component is the painstaking efforts of architectural designers of all ages.

From the perspective of development, ancient Chinese architecture has a history of six or seven thousand years.

The existing 67.1-meter-high wooden pagoda of the Buddha Temple in Yingxian County, Shanxi Province, is the highest existing wooden structure building in the world; The Forbidden City of the Ming and Qing Dynasties in Beijing is the largest existing large-scale architectural complex in the world, with exquisite architectural derivatives and complete preservation.

As for China's classical gardens, their unique artistic style makes them a pearl in China's cultural heritage.
This series of existing buildings with superb technology, exquisite art and unique style have formed their own systems in the history of world architecture and are an important part of China's splendid ancient culture.

Ancient Chinese craftsmen discovered the possibility of using roofs to achieve artistic effects very early. Three thousand years ago, poets have sung praises of the stretched roof of the ancestral temple in their poems. Chinese ancient craftsmen made full use of the characteristics of wood structure to create the roof lifting and folding, roof warping and outwarping, forming the cornice corners and soft and beautiful curves of all parts of the roof.

At the same time, the ridge ends of the ridge are properly carved, and the eaves tiles are also decorated. Roof figures is a piece of beast placed on the ridge of the roof of ancient Chinese buildings.

After the Song Dynasty, a large number of glazed tiles were used, and most of the high-grade buildings used glazed tiles. Their function was to protect wooden bolts and nails, prevent water leakage and rust, and fix and support the joint of the ridge.
Roof figures is made of tiles, in which a kissing or watching beast is placed on the right ridge, a hanging beast is placed on the vertical ridge, and the ridge (qiang ji) The berm animals are placed on the roof, and the immortals and animals are placed on the edge of the roof. Later, roof figures developed decorative functions and had strict hierarchical significance. The number and form of roof figures placed in buildings of different levels were strictly limited.

Since then, there have been many other roof styles, as well as various complex forms with artistic effects formed by these roofs, which have made Chinese ancient architecture gain rich experience in using roof forms to create the artistic image of architecture, and become one of the important features of Chinese ancient architecture.
