The first mansion in Jiangnan, China

Xue Fucheng personally planned and sketched the Xue Family Garden before he went to England, France, Italy and Belgium, which was built by his eldest son. It lasted four years (1890-1894). The homestead is composed of three axes, namely, the central, eastern and western axes. It has a large scale, a rigorous layout, a combination of Chinese and western, and obvious characteristics. There are more than 160 buildings preserved in Xuejia Garden, with a building area of 6000 square meters. The whole group of buildings is magnificent and distinctive, reflecting the characteristics of the era when the west spread to the east at the end of the Qing Dynasty, and filling the gap in China's architectural history.

Xuejia Garden, located in Wuxi, China, was built in modern times. It is the private garden of Xue Fucheng, a famous minister in the late Qing Dynasty. It has more than 160 houses, occupying a large area in the southwest of the old city, known as "Xue's Half City".

An important feature of Xuejia Garden is that western elements are integrated into Chinese architecture. Hexagonal brick walls and Western-style sliding doors are very rare in Wuben Hall. The billiard room in the East Garden is a building specially used for snooker billiards, with wooden floors, wooden walls, chandeliers and colored glass. The combination of Chinese and Western architecture perfectly reflects the style of the times when the West is spreading to the east.

After four years of construction, the Xuejia Garden was completed, just in time for the end of the main envoy's term, and he was full of hope to return home by boat. However, it is hard to predict the world. Xue died of a serious illness in the picture in the cube not far from his home. Finally, he did not see the grand courtyard that he had devoted all his efforts to. But it has created a classic Chinese garden in the south of the Yangtze River for people to enjoy.
