Differences Between Chinese and Western Architecture

After a long period of effort, Chinese ancient architecture has absorbed the characteristics of other traditional Chinese arts, especially painting, sculpture, craft, art and other plastic arts, created colorful artistic images, and formed many characteristics in this regard. Compared with traditional Chinese architecture, western architecture tends to be more sculptural, emphasizing the harmony and unity of the whole and part of the architecture.

Each kind of architecture is a symbol of a region, a culture, and a national psychology and ideology. The design of architecture contains a lot of content. Whether it is the selection of construction, or the decoration and modeling of architecture, it is obtained through a lot of thinking. The differences between Chinese and Western cultures and regions inevitably lead to the differences between Chinese and Western architecture. The spirits embodied in the two are completely different.

There are three kinds of traditional building materials in China and the West: soil, wood and stone. Chinese traditional building materials are mainly wood, while western building materials are more stone based. Chinese people use stone and soil to build bases and walls. Westerners use wood on roofs, which makes Chinese and Western architectures have their own characteristics and express different emotions. Chinese architecture is more of a human emotion, while Western architecture is a kind of God's emotion, biased towards religion.

Chinese traditional architectural structure has the following three characteristics: first, it stresses symmetrical artistic effect; The second is to take wood as the main frame; The third is the unique individual shape.

Chinese architecture has a strong painting effect, focusing on the creation of artistic conception beauty, rather than the modeling and perspective effect of architecture, but it often pays more attention to the perspective effect of buildings in space, which can give people a feeling of extension and secluded paths, including the implicit beauty of Chinese tradition and the pursuit of harmony. Compared with traditional Chinese architecture, western architecture tends to be more sculptural, emphasizing the harmony and unity of the whole and part of the architecture.
