Chinese archway is a kind of ancient gatehouse with commemorative and decorative functions. It is usually made of wood, brick, stone, glazed tile and other materials and inscribed with inscriptions. It is often found at crossroads or in front of ancient Chinese Bridges, temples and ancestral temples gardens.
Chinese archway embodies the essence of ancient Chinese architectural art, with exquisite layout, compact structure and diverse forms. It is spectacular from a distance and exquisitely carved from a close view, so it is loved by people.
Archway is the general corridor of a family, and is the "facade" of the building, directly reflecting the master's social status, occupation and economic level. Because the cost of the gatehouse is relatively high, the height and size of the gatehouse, the quality of the brick and tile village, the colorful characters, and the relationship between the neighbors are all stipulated, which should be consistent with the identity.
In the Tang Dynasty, Chinese cities adopted the Li Fang system, which was divided into several square residential areas by criss-crossing roads. These residential areas were called Fang in the Tang Dynasty. Fang is the basic unit of residential area, "Fang" and "fang" between the wall separated, Fang wall central door, in order to pass, called Fang door. After the Song Dynasty, with the collapse of Fang, there was only the form of archway because the door did not have much effect.
