The roof of ancient Chinese buildings

The appearance of Chinese ancient architecture is very obvious, which consists of three parts: roof, body and platform. The roof of ancient Chinese architecture, known as the crown of Chinese architecture, is characterized by the smooth, curved roof and eaves.

The original function of the roof was to quickly drain water from the roof, and later it gradually developed into a symbol of hierarchy. From the embryonic form in the early Han Dynasty to the regularization in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the roof form experienced a long process of evolution.

The shape of ancient Chinese architecture is beautiful, the roof makes the building appear stable and coordinated, but also adds a building flying light aesthetic feeling.

The top of the palace house is the most exposed and conspicuous part of the whole building, and also the strongest sense of hierarchy. In the Qing Dynasty, 27 kinds of house specifications specified in the engineering practice were incorporated into the general Assembly code.

Fixed as a legal hierarchy, the roof can be divided into nine types in descending order of style. As the most typical symbol representative of ancient Chinese architecture, the roof is rich in form and exquisite in shape. It is an important treasure of Chinese architectural culture and has great artistic and practical value.
