The story of ancient Chinese architecture 'distant marriage' to America

Salem, a coastal town of just 40,000 people northeast of Boston, is best known for its witch culture. But what makes people feel incredible is that there is a 200-year history of Chinese Hui-style architecture in this town, called Yin Yu Tang, which is the first and only ancient Huizhou architecture built overseas in the world. This is the story of an ancient building crossing the ocean to "marry" The United States. This story started more than 20 years ago.

In 1993, an American woman named Nancy visited Huangcun, Anning County, China. She was so moved by the ancient villages with white walls and black tiles that she even had the idea of bringing a Hui-style building back to the United States.Nancy is a China enthusiast who studied Chinese art history at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. She was one of the first Westerners to visit Huizhou before China opened up to the outside world. She is also the Director of the China Pavilion at the Salem Museum of Beauty in the United States.

Three years later, Nancy came here again, hearing that the owner was planning to sell here, Nancy immediately returned to China to raise funds, in the tireless efforts of running around, an American investment company invested 125 million DOLLARS, bought the Yin Yu Tang, as a project of sino-AMERICAN cultural exchange program.

In the spring of 1997, the demolition and relocation of Yin Yu Tang began. The demolition alone took four months. The dismantled parts included 2,735 wooden structures, 972 stone pieces and the living and decorative articles placed in the house at that time, as well as the fish pond, the courtyard, the courtyard wall, the foundation, the stone paving slabs at the entrance and the small courtyard.Every brick and tile, plant and tree removed from Yinyu Hall were filled with 19 containers.

In June 2003, after seven years, Yin Yu Tang was officially opened to the public, with more than 10,000 visitors on the first day.Because of the difficulty of moving and rebuilding, the museum's management and preservation of it is also quite strict. The number of visitors is limited to half an hour every day, and you must follow the guide to enter according to the batch, no filming!

Time seems to stand still here.An old house that was about to be demolished in China has been "taken" to the United States and given a new life in a foreign country. As a solidified art, architecture carries a large number of and rich historical information. Through the study of each ancient building, we can make a detailed study and understanding of the social, cultural, artistic, political and other historical issues in each historical period.
