Chi Lin Nunnery, Hong Kong

Chi Lin Nunnery, Hong Kong, is located in Diamond Hill, Kowloon. The entire park refers to the existing Tang Dynasty buildings, Dunhuang murals and documents in China, Japan and other places. It was designed by the famous Hong Kong architect Yu Zongqiao and the Japanese ancient architecture expert Akio Takikawa served as a consultant. It took more than 10 years to build. The architecture of the temple building is all made of solid wood. From the roof tiles, to the styles of bucket arches, doors and windows, column foundations, and the ratio of beams to columns, they strictly follow the styles of ancient buildings in the Tang Dynasty. It can be said that they perfectly reproduce the wooden architecture of my country in the Tang Dynasty style.

In the mountain gate, look at the interior structure of the building, the alternate wood between the pillars, the dougong and the purlin, the simple hump, the moon beam and other techniques, which are more common in the palace-style buildings (temples, palaces, etc.) in the Song Dynasty and before.

The Danan lotus pond was designed according to the Jiangshouju garden pond in Shanxi in the Tang Dynasty. There are scattered pine trees in the garden. The pavilions and pavilions are reasonably distributed in the garden. It is a rare and elegant garden in the city. The Chinese Museum of Wooden Architecture, exhibits existing Chinese Tang and Song architectural models such as Foguang Temple (Tang Dynasty), Nanchan Temple (Tang Dynasty), Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, Dule Temple, etc.

This Buddhist temple was built in 1934, went through a multi-stage renovation project in the 1990s, and opened to the public in 2000. Nowadays, it is not only a place for Buddhists to burn incense and worship Buddha, but also has schools, libraries, dental clinics and nursing homes.
