Ancient Chinese Building

Ancient buildings have a long historical tradition and glorious achievements in China. The architectural art of ancient my country is also an important object of art appreciation. From the perspective of types, ancient Chinese architecture can be roughly divided into four categories: palaces, mausoleums, temples and dwellings!

(1) Palace buildings are places where high-ranking officials and nobles live. The ancient emperors built huge and majestic buildings in order to consolidate their rule, demonstrate their status, highlight the majesty of imperial power, and satisfy the enjoyment of spiritual life and material life. Their characteristics are tall, large, deep, and strict. It is mainly divided into two parts. One is the place where the emperor governed the state affairs and held the ceremony. The "harem" was the place where the emperor and his concubines lived.

(2) The mausoleum buildings are mostly built based on the natural terrain. The layout is mostly surrounded by walls, doors on all sides, and turrets at four corners. There are corridors in front of the mausoleum. On both sides of the corridors are gatekeepers and stone beast statues. There are pines and cypresses in the cemetery. The verdantness shows the majesty of the deceased emperor while adding a solemn atmosphere.

(3) Due to its specific religious belief background, temple buildings generally present the characteristics of harmony, silence, and mystery. Just as "the four hundred and eighty temples in the Southern Dynasties, how many buildings are in the mist and rain" said, temples are mostly built in cities or famous mountains in order to create a wonderful natural and human environment, so that people can get close to religious beliefs in a harmonious atmosphere.

(4) Residential buildings reflect family harmony and family culture, and they usually appear simple and warm.
