The use of glazed cap tiles

Why is there a bulge on glazed tiles? What is it used for? Today we are going to find out the truth.

The protrusion is called galzed cap tile, which is a safe protection measure in order to prevent glazed tiles from falling off and falling on people.

Between the tiles, the tiles are daubed with clay, a mixture of coke and ash that, when dry, is very hard and rarely seeps or falls off. But even so, in order to prevent the bottom of a row of tile falling off (eave tile), people would nail on the top of the tile to hold it.  But the iron nail exposed for a long time would rust and break, so it was given a "cap".

This "cap" is also glazed, with plaster inside, it will dry out and fix the nails to prevent it from getting damp and rusty. So we see that there is a row of glazed tiles on the eaves of all the halls and there will be a small convex, that is glazed cap tiles.

Therefore, no matter the roof or wall, the glazed tile construction itself is to protect the safety of the top of the building. As long as normal use and maintenance are guaranteed, there will be no safety hazards.
