Fenghuang Ancient City

    Fenghuang Ancient City is located in the southwest of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Hunan Province.  Because the green mountain on its back is very like a phoenix spreading its wings to fly so named, it is a gathering place of ethnic minorities mainly miao and Tujia.                                                  

    Phoenix ancient city housing mostly wooden structure buildings, bungalows and buildings, there are rectangular thatched houses.  As a national historical and cultural city, the scenery of Fenghuang ancient City integrates natural and humanistic characteristics into one place.  The New Zealand writer Rewi Alley once called it one of the most beautiful cities in China.

    The roof of the ancient city of Phoenix is covered with black gray tiles, because black represents water in the "five elements", and black gray tiles contain people's desire to overcome fire with water.  Black gray tiles are installed on the roof while other transparent materials are used locally, which can not only make the interior get enough light, but also make the appearance of the roof look richer and more vivid.
