Jianshanlou, formerly known as Mengyinlou, is a south of the Yangtze River style residential building with double eaves saddle roof, gentle slope, whitewashed walls and grey Chinese roof tiles, and elegant colors. The bright tiled windows upstairs maintain an ancient and simple style
The Jianshanlou in Suzhou Humble Administrator's Garden is surrounded by water on three sides and surrounded by mountains on both sides. From the west, you can enter the ground floor through a flat bridge, while the upper floor has to go through a climbing corridor or rockery.
The bottom of the Jianshanlou building is called the "Lotus Root Pavilion", and there is a WuWangKao along the water corridor. When you have a rest, you can watch the fish closely and admire the lotus in the middle, while the scenery in the garden is like a painting which unfolds slowly in front of your eyes.
The upper floor is Jianshanlou, formerly known as Mengyinlou. According to legend, it was the office of Li Xiucheng, the loyal king of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom during the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty. Because the name of this building was too negative, it was changed to Jianshanlou.
