Shen Garden

Shen Garden is located in Chunbo Lane, Yuecheng District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, and China. It is a famous garden in Song Dynasty. Shen Garden has a history of more than 800 years. Shen Garden, also known as "Shen's Garden", was a private garden owned by a wealthy businessman surnamed Shen in the Southern Song Dynasty. It was built in the Song Dynasty and was very large when it was first established, covering an area of 70 mu. In the park, there are pavilions, small bridges and flowing water, trees lined with trees, and the scenery of the south of the Yangtze River. It is the only Song-style garden that has been preserved to this day among many classical gardens in Shaoxing.

It was expanded twice in 1987 and 1994, and the land area of the whole park was restored to 18.5 mu. There are three relatively independent and characteristic gardens in the park. The gourd pool and hills in the historic interest area are still the original relics of the Song Dynasty, and most of the rest are restored on the basis of archaeological excavations; Dongyuan, with an area of more than 6000 square meters, is located on the east side of the historic site area. It is also known as the Lovers’ Garden, which shows the characteristics of features of Jiangnan gardens; Nanyuan, covering an area of more than 6000 square meters, is located at the southern end of the historic site area and is mainly composed of Shen Yuan Evening Performing Arts Theatre and Lu You Memorial Hall.

In addition to ensuring the basic garden activity space, Shenyuan has made reasonable arrangements for water bodies, buildings, mountains and vegetation (flowers and trees). The perfect combination and coordination of the four elements of the garden creates an artistic conception of mountains and forests within easy reach, highlighting the theme atmosphere of each garden.
