——West Garden

The West Garden, also known as "Yuyuan" and Fangpu, is on the west side of Daming Temple in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. The garden was built in the first year of Qianlong (1736) by Wang Yinggeng. The West Garden takes advantage of the natural hills of Sichuan post and adds artificial and wonderful decorations to form the surrounding mountains, which is unique in gardening art.

In 1963, the West Garden re-stacked the rocks and piled the mountains, built a new well pavilion and the boat hall; in 1979, Nanmu Hall and Cypress Hall were moved and built, and a new mountain pavilion was built. A stone path was laid around the garden. The stone path turned around the pool. The topography of the pool was high, low, deep and overhanging, and the stone path pierced through the green trees. Between the green bamboos and pavilions, it may appear or disappear. In the layout of the mountains and rivers, the scenery is very natural, giving people a sense of green mountains and green waters and beautiful scenery. There are islands of various sizes scattered on the vast water surface, the islands are connected to the water, and the water surrounds the islands, forming a vivid and beautiful scroll of lakes and mountains in the limited space.
