Dongpo Park

Dongpo Park, a classical garden, is located on the southeast side of Hongmei Park, the first garden in Changzhou. Dongpo Park, formerly known as the East Suburban park, Yizhou Pavilion, etc., is a classical garden that integrates historical sites and natural landscapes.

The people of Changzhou built a pavilion here in the early years of Xianchun in the Southern Song Dynasty. Later, due to constant fighting, they were destroyed and built repeatedly. In 1954, the Municipal People's Government rebuilt the pavilion and garden. In 1982, the traditional brick carving process was used to build the entrance courtyard. In 1984, the Half Moon Island was further expanded in conjunction with the renovation of the canal project. From June 2008 to April 2009, it was the largest renovation, ending the 55-year history of ticketing into the park. After the new renovation, the park covers an area of 4.3 hectares, with nearly 20 scenic spots, completely open to the public free of charge.

Bypassing the curved corridor, it is suddenly bright, the woods are beautiful, and the water and stone are strange, showing the classic garden style of our country. The door knocker on the gate of Dongpo Park is different from the others, and it looks like a tiger, named “bi an”; dragon head with a rolled tail at both ends of the roof of a half-pavilion is called “chi wen”. The “bi an” on the door can clearly distinguish right from wrong, have deterrent power and the “chi wen” is water-based, can overcome fire, installed on both ends of the ridge is beautiful, and can extinguish disasters.

There are a lot of "mountains" in Dongpo Park, but there is only a little "water", which seems to be out of proportion. However, the original gardener skillfully "borrowed" the water from the ancient canal outside the garden into the garden, which fully embodies the "borrowing scenery" skills and artistic techniques in garden art. Stroll along the trail, admire the busy scenery of the ancient canal from the north to the south of the ancient canal, and enjoy the panoramic view of the water town in southern yangtze river, which makes people feel relaxed and happy.
