Examination Hall

The Examination Hall is located in Caochang Hutong, East Street, Dingzhou City, Hebei Province in China. It is the only examination room for the selection and selection of talents and tributes in the feudal society in northern of China. In 2001, it was listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit.

In the three years of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (AD 1738), the governor Danian Wang created the Dingzhou Examination Hall, which gathered the civilian and military candidates in the jurisdiction to take the exam; it is a place to get excellent talent. In the twelve years of Daoguang (1822 AD), the governor of Dingzhou City expanded the site, rebuilt it and built up, forming a large-scale examination room. It has been restored and preserved to this day. The imperial examinations have been abolished for a hundred years, and few remains have been preserved. In the northern part of China, this is well preserved.

Examination Hall complex is a north-south central axis layout. It now has 5 main building, including the shadow wall, gate, Kui Pavilion, lobby and back building of the upper part of the central axis, covering an area of more than 20,000 square meters. From the north to the south, the main buildings are the shadow wall, the gate, the second gate, the Kui Pavilion, the lobby, the second hall, the back building, etc. In the harem and other buildings, each building has its own courtyard, and some auxiliary buildings are built more or less according to the needs of the courtyard.

Entering the Examination Hall, the first thing is that catches your eyes is the majestic shadow wall of 2 feet high and 6 feet long. The architectural style of the Gongyuan is magnificent and unique, showing the architectural style and superb design skills of the Qing Dynasty. It is not only a magnificent architectural community, but also a grand examination scene that year; it is a historical witness of the feudal imperial examination system.
