Ancient Buildings in Jiangzhou

The third floor of Jiangzhou refers to the Bell Tower, Drum Tower, and Lelou. It is located above the high wall in the west of Xinjiang County. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there were many city buildings in the prefectures and towns, commonly known as the Drum Tower, only the three building of Jiangzhou stands side by side, the bell tower is in the south, the music tower is in the east, and the drum tower is in the north. It is a provincial key cultural relic protection unit.

The Drum Tower is built on the west side of the top of Qixingpo, facing east, and southeast of the state hall. The base is grand and made of masonry. The east and west gates are linked together. The building is triple eaves, with Xieshan Gable and Hip Roof. The beams in the building are regular and unique, has the value of ancient construction.

The building is square with a high topography and a platform. The building has doors on all four sides, inlaid with four pairs of stone carved couplets. The roof is Xieshan Gable and Hip Roof, trimmed with glazed roof tiles. The huge bell hanging inside, because the casting technology is advanced, the bell is crisp, sweet, and bright, and can be heard for dozens of li at night.

The date of creation is unknown, and it is now a relic of the Ming Dynasty. The roof is Chinese gabled roof with round tiles. On the north side of the building, there is stone masonry Qixingpo that increases step by step. This pavilion is the main venue for Chinese New Year and Festival activities in the city. The ramp in front of the stage is wide and inclined, so that the audience can watch the performance without any obstruction.

In these three buildings, the Drum Tower is the largest, which plays a role of transportation hub, while the bell tower is smaller and has a single role. Lelou is a stage on the avenue, which is the entertainment center of Jiangzhou people in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The third floor is an important symbol of the ancient city of Jiangzhou, which forms an ancient cultural area with the lobby and garden pool.
