Chaotian Palace

Chaotian Palace, located in Yeshan, Shuiximen, Chaotiangong Street, Qinhuai District, Nanjing City, is the ancient building group with the highest grade, the largest area and the most complete preservation in the existing Jiangnan area. The name of Chaotian Palace is the Ming Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang imperial decree.

The Chaotian Palace in the Ming Dynasty was the largest and most famous Taoist temple in Nanjing at that time. Its ancient architectural complex covers an area of about 70,000 square meters remaining, large-scale, powerful and majestic. It is the most complete and well-preserved Confucian temple complex in the South of the Yangtze River.

Chaotian Palace was the largest Taoist temple in Nanjing and the South of the Yangtze River until the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. After years of change, Chaotian Palace has served as the Temple of Literature, Jiangning Fuxue, and the Capital High Court, and is now the Nanjing City Museum.
